Microsoft imagines to combine SharePoint with Virtual Reality (VR) Headset

Microsoft fostered its SharePoint software two years ago to better compete with Dropbox, Slack, and Box, and it is going a step further now by bringing its business-focused software to its Mixed Reality (MR) headsets. SharePoint is mainly used by businesses to organize documents, build intranet sites, and handle content internally. 400,000 organizations use SharePoint, but it is not the applications you'd most expect to get there on virtual reality headsets.

SharePoint spaces were made to be an immersive atmosphere for data visualization and manipulation, something we've noticed in the past, that some VR programs do. Microsoft ideates by bringing SharePoint into the virtual reality world that the companies will use it to recruit new employees, training courses, and product creation. It's tough to envision, however, Microsoft wants companies to allow new recruits sit with a virtual reality headset and also find out about the business via a 360-degree orientation process.

Likewise, learning goals and training could be used via SharePoint from the virtual universe. This sounds more probable, as there are lots of examples of VR programs for training remote workers as well as getting employees used to machinery. This sort of experience could also be used for product development to exhibit prototypes within SharePoint on MR headsets.

Since SharePoint is widely employed by the 135 million Office 365 users, its own entrance into virtual reality can bring down the price of developing experiences for companies. It's still unlikely that SharePoint is going to be used widely in virtual reality, however, this seems like more of an experiment from Microsoft to see how business-focused programs could be utilized on Windows Mixed Reality headsets. Microsoft is opening up a special preview edition of SharePoint spaces before it's made available more widely to most Office 365 commercial users.
